Physics, how to find magnification and distance of image?

The focal length of the lens is 6.0 cm. How far should you place an object from the convex lens to produce and image a third the size of the object.

My question really is:
"image a third the size of the object".
1) Doesn't this mean hi = (1/3)ho ?
2) Does this also mean di = (1/3)do ?
If so, why the correlation? Because of the equation M = hi / ho = -di / do ? Why isn't it di = (-1/3)do then?

hi = height of image
ho = height of object
di = distance of image
do = distance of object
