Decarboxylation

The carboxyl group of amino acids may undergo enzymic decarboxylation to yield a corresponding amine. Biological amines are important compounds which participate in various physiological reactions. Some examples are histamine, tyramine and tryptamine.
Reduction of a caraboxyl group can be carried out by strong reductant such as sodium borohydride (NaBH4) to yield the corresponding alcohol.
