Actually lines of force emanated from a charge are infinite but it was suggested by Faraday the electric field should be assumed to be composed of very small closed areas. From each point of this small area a line of force is emerged, known as tube of force and total number o such tubes of force radiated outbid a charge of Q coulombs is Q and is  known as eclectic flux.

Electric flux ψ   = Q coulombs
Flux emanated ψ   = charge Q and is measured in coulombs
