The square root of the ratio of inertia force and gravitational force is called Froude’s number. It is denoted by F_r.

F_r  =  √ Inertia force / Gravitational force

= √ Mass x Acceleration / Mass x Acceleration due to gravity

= √ Velocity / time / Accleration due to gravity

= √ V / T / g             V = L / T   T = L / V

= √ V / L/V . g = √ V² / L. g

F_r  =  V / √ L.g

Open hydraulic structure such as spillways, weirs, open channel flow, sluices etc. in which force due to gravity are predominant.
