Questions on electricity? How to handle it without getting shocked?

A book I m writing has a lot to do with electricity. But not like electricity as in technology, or a plug in, or circuits. . . more like lightning. (it s hard to explain)

Would there be a way to handle a stream of electricity so it wouldn t electrocute you when it made contact? Like some sort of clothing? Or the whole thing on having the same potential difference, or however that goes. . . I don t really understand that.

Also, what happens when you re electrocuted at a low level ? Can you be shocked enough to pass out or something but not be permanently/fatally injured?

Any other information would be great too! Sorry this is long. Thanks!
