Cell signalling questions?

Cell signalling questions?

Hello, I need some answers to some questions, based on cell signalling in the planarian organism. I did a school experiment which shows that this planarian organism is attracted to dark areas; they move away from lit areas. There are a fair few questions, so if anyone could please answer a few, or even all, that would be much appreciated.

1. Explain why substance ‘b’ (neurotransmitter) has a shape and structure that is important in the communication between nerve cells
2. Some mechanosensory regions can respond and react without activating interneurons. Name and explain this process.
3. Explain how a single odorant given off by food can be detected by a cell and responded to. Name this process.
4. What is the general function of a hormone?
5. What are the characteristics of a hormone that influence the way they initiate a response in the cell?
6. Amounts of hormone z are shown to vary. What could act upon cell z to stop its production?
7. Hormone z is composed of mostly loads and is released in response to food in the planarian digestive system. What organelle could be responsible for its production?
8. What causes healthy cells to die? What cellular mechanisms cause this?
