Velocity and force questions. What formula do I use? How do I go about solving these?

A man can row a boat in still water at 1.5 m s−1. He rows across a 45 m wide river
with his boat always pointing perpendicular to the banks. If the river is flowing
parallel to the banks at 2 m s−1, what will be the magnitude of his resultant velocity
(in m s−1)?

A fireman’s hose, acting as a water cannon, directs 100 litres s−1 (100 kg s−1)
of water horizontally at your chest at a speed of 5 m s−1. Assuming the water
essentially falls to the ground after hitting your chest (rather than say reflecting
horizontally backwards), what horizontal force will you feel (in N)?
