What unit chemical processing methods have been used?

I am told that you can determine unit chemical processing methods through looking at the prefix of chemical names. So, for example:

"Amines, C16-C22 alkyldimethyl, is reacted with dimethyl sulfate, in the presence of cetearyl alcohol, to form Behentrimonium Methosulfate and Cetearyl Alcohol."

Does this mean that alkylation has occurred in the above reaction (from the alkyldimethyl)? That's the only thing that I can see. Is there another method? Have I missed another processing method as well?

Also, when it states "in the presence of", does it mean that the chemical was part of the starting material? Or something that was added?

I would love any further explanations as well (or even any material to read that would explain this better)!

Thank you for your help! It's much appreciated.
