Regulation of an organism's internal environment to maintain conditions suitable for its survival is called homeostasis. Homeostasis is a characteristic of life because it is a process that occurs in all living things. Living things also use internal feedback to respond to internal changes. For example, organisims must make constant adjustments to maintain the correct amount of water and minerals in their cells and the proper internal temperature. Without this ability to adjust to internal changes, organisms die. What are some other examples of how feedback mechanisms help maintain homeostasis?
