The United Nations- Objectives And Principles

The Charter of the United Nations was signed by 50 nations at San Francisco on June 26, 1945. Its preamble expresses the common aims of the peoples of the members of the United Nations and their determination to save humanity from the scourge of war.

Objectives. 

The objectives of the United Nations are set forth in Article 1 of the Charter:

1.    To maintain international peace and security.
2.    To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights
        and self-determination of people.
3.    To cooperate in solving international problems of an economic, social or humanitarian
       character and in the promotion of aspects of human peace, fundamental freedoms for all.
4.    To be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations in the attainment of these common ends.

Principles:

 To fulfill the objectives for which it was established, the United Nations acts in accordance with the following principles as set for in Article 2 of the Charter.

1.    The organization is based on the principle of sovereign equality of allots members.
2.    All members hall fulfill in good faith the obligations they assumed under the Charter.
3.    They shall settle their international disputes by peaceful means.
4.    They shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force in any manner inconsistent with the objectives of the United Nations.
5.    They shall give the United Nations every assistance in any action it takes in accordance with the Chatter, and to refrain to give any assistance to any state against which the UN is taking preventive or enforcement action.
6.    The noted Nation is to ensure that non-members act in accordance with these principles so far is necessary for maintaining international peace and security.
7.    The UN shall not intervene in matters essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any State. This provision shall not however, prejudice the application of any enforcement action with respect threats to the peace, breaches of peace and acts of aggression.

Atlantic Charter:

On 14th  August 1941, President Franklin D.
