•    The pitot tube is suitable for open channel fluid flow but not for the atmospheric.

•    The pitot static tubes used in an aircraft are similar in concept as that of pitot tube but somewhat different in dimensions.

•    The tube that faces the flow is the high pressure side, whereas the surrounding tube that has opening perpendicular to the flow is the low pressure side.

•    These two are connected to opposite sides of some pressure difference measuring device.

•    The pitot static tube is the standard device for measuring the air-speed of airplanes.
